The galaxy is a dangerous place, always has been, always will be.
The Forgotten Cantina is set in the period known as the Old Republic made popular in the "Knights of the Old Republic" games made by Bioware.
Set more than 3,000 years before the original trilogy, the time deals with a multitude of problems and amazing adventures that embody the idea of Star Wars. Before the rule of two was imposed on the Sith by Darth Bane, this is a period that deals with many conflicts and factions that you can't see in star wars. The Sith are still around in large numbers, either operating independently or forming various groups to fulfil their selfish goals.
The cantina exists several hundred years after the events of the first KoToR game, after the Mandalorian wars involving Revan. One key thing to note here is that this site does not follow the events of the MMO 'The Old Republic', this is due to the severe two sided nature that the mmo created due to the need of it's faction system. We do accept both Kotor and Kotor 2. I want to make it specific and stated that this forum is set hundreds of years after the Dark Wars.
People in the galaxy are usually out for number 1, out for whoever pays the most credits. We want to offer that to our players, you can be who you want and join who you want. As such we use the setting of the Old Republic but set it in a period where no events are going on that we don't create. The Mandalorian wars are history and currently there is no large scale war going on, it is a period of tentative peace. Things are done on an indivual level day to day, but who knows what may happen..
You'll need to know a little about this period but thankfully much of the technology is the same, though the galaxy has a very different look and feel about it. We recommend you look up the KoToR games and always recommend you play them, they're great. You can also use the extensive Wookiepedia, and if you need to know something more specific and can't find information, look around the site or ask an admin.
A note about force users.
There is a regrowing jedi movement, however it is small after the previous years of near extinction and not too massive in numbers, but they are known and not an entirely uncommon sight. This is also before the rule of two was instituted by Darth Bane which means there can be multiple sith, but it is highly unlikely that they would run around proclaiming that, both kinds of force user are not too trusted by the galaxy and it comes down to the individual, just be aware of the overall view of them from the galaxy. Chances are you'll want to keep your nature hidden if you're a dark side user, if not you'll garner some unwanted attention. Sith are not too frequent, they are divided for the most part and there is no empire.
Jedi are based on Dantooine, still repairing and rebuilding the ruined temple there, not yet being accepted back on Coruscant. The sith are not based anywhere due to the lack of order between them, though you can always organize yourselves.
