An easy guide if you want to learn anything more about the planets of Star Wars!
Located in the Coruscant subsector of the Corusca sector within the Core Worlds region, Coruscant was a planet covered in a dense urban landscape. The skyscrapers were built on the planet's surface called Galactic City, itself dense urban blocks with inner levels. Coruscant was the center of galactic culture and the capital of the governments of both the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire. It was from Coruscant that the Galactic Senate, led by the Supreme Chancellor, would meet to discuss issues and pass legislation.
Beyond the politics, Coruscant was also home to many different species and creatures. Traffic was a constant with airspeeders moving through the skylanes that wove in between skyscrapers. Below the pristine surface of the city were hundreds of levels that went deep down, beyond the grime and darker areas of the undercity were the maintenance areas. Huge constructions of pipes and machines that kept the city alive with power and plumbing. Pedestrians could walk along the streets that ran alongside the various levels or on top of the urban blocks themselves. Entertainment districts with night clubs, bars, theatres, and other business throughout the city catered to the population. Some serviced high end customers though many could be found in the lower levels and in seedy districts favoured by the criminal underworld. Citizens who lived in the upper levels were able to breathe air that was filtered and clean. Sunlight never reached the lower levels which had to be lit by artificial light and the inhabitants were forced to breathe stagnant and fetid air of factories and vehicle pollution.
The highest surface on Coruscant was Level 5127 and the lowest was Level 1 which was deemed uninhabitable. Accessible by huge portals (massive ventilation shafts that ran through all levels of the city, the underworld was a massive city beneath the city. Dwellings and smaller buildings were squeezed in between massive towers and infrastructure that serviced the planet. Streets and alleyways were narrow and large sections contained warehouses and massive buildings largely abandoned and built upon from the levels above
Tatooine
Tatooine was a desert planet located in the Outer Rim Territories. The planet was part of a binary star system. Due to the lack of surface water, many residents of the planet instead drew water from the atmosphere via moisture farms. Located in the Outer Rim, a region of the galaxy far removed from its core. It had three moons, Ghomrassen, Guermessa and Chenini. Due to Tatooine orbiting its two suns, Tatoo I and Tatoo II, the planet was oppressed by a scorching climate. The whole planet was covered in harsh deserts, and only a small part of its northern hemisphere could sustain intelligent life. The planet was filled with many natural hazards including sudden sandstorms and carnivorous krayt dragons.
Due to its place in the galaxy, it was a favoured place for smugglers and those looking to avoid attention from galactic factions. A very lawless location, it has been under the rule of Hutt warlords for thousands of years while out in the wastes you would be subject to the mercy of the Tuskan Raiders or other vile creatures. The landscape consisting of dry sandy desert, covered the entire surface of the plane. Caves and huge rock formations broke up the horizon and gave some refuge from the massive sandstorms that could rage on the planet's surface, so powerful were these that if you weren't torn apart by the stones caught up in it, you would be lost in the ever changing dunes.
The desolate wasteland of Tatooine had only a few major settlements, the longest lasting of these being Mos Eisley and Mos Espa, large port cities that served as the most expedient way off the planet. Not subject to the laws of the republic, you must show caution whenever you find yourself on this world and see to it that you never owe a Hutt.
Nar Shaddaa
Known as the 'Smuggler's Moon', Nar Shaddaa orbits around the Hutt Homeworld of Nal Hutta. The moon is covered in one massive city and is a sea of lawlessness and crime. The city itself is a gaudy neon expanse, a constant assault on the senses, ads and signs for all manner of things. Laws are in place only to protect those in power, the Hutts who control the planet. Gambling, prostitution, bounty hunting, an all manner of activities similar take place every day on the moon. To prevent the planet falling into complete anarchy, there is a code on the planet and many either keep to themselves or govern their own enterprises, if ever a conflict became too heated, it would be settled by the Hutts. If you needed to disappear, Nar Shaddaa was the best place to do so, you can find anything and everything there to forge a new identity and new life. It is a world and moon of enterprise, a safe haven for any and all who have the survival instinct to make it on the moon. There is a sense of order you can find on the planet, from the Hutt's of all races. The cartels pool money into certain areas such as large market places, their enforcers keeping peace and some form of law to ensure that business can still go on without open gunfights on the streets.
The air of the moon was a thick smog due to lack of any sort of regulations for factories, leaving the bright neon signs to shine through the haze. If you can stomach it's atmosphere, Nar Shaddaa can be an excellent place to partake in the many vices of the galaxy. Open drug trade and an all manner of otherwise outlawed hardware is freely sold on the planet and so long as you do not cross those that sell it then you should be able to avoid attracting the wrong kind of attention. The atmosphere of the planet is an assortment of ships too large to dock or waiting for access or simply just junk floating in orbit. Not friendly to the average spacer, those who have the initiative and fortitude can make a decent profit on the planet, though you will have to see it that you don't take away from someone else's profit. It's a haven for those looking to indulge in any vice they so chose, so long as they have the credits to pay for it.
Dantooine.
Looking at the galaxy as a whole, Dantooine is a very peaceful planet. Characterized by its large green fields and pleasant meadows, it is relatively underdeveloped. A very rural planet, many communities are farmers and aren't concerned with the hustle and bustle of the rest of the galaxy. It was this peaceful nature that originally attracted the Jedi to the planet, constructing a temple there to train apprentices and meditate on the force. It also had the benefit of being one of the few places that naturally occurring saber crystals grew in deep caves, making it a very good location for the order. However after the previous hundred years of wars and exterminations, the jedi presence was all but wiped out.
These days, the jedi have reclaimed parts of their ruined temple, though a large amount of it is still derelict and closed off, they aim to rebuild there and established a strengthened order anew. Thanks to the planet's distance from any larger galactic trade routes, it enjoys a lack of attention from the galaxy, but this does leave it isolated and usually shipments and supplies will be delivered to a central star port and need to be collected, especially considering the planet's relatively low population.
Korriban.
One would assume is completely insignificant, Korriban is on its surface completely dead. However beneath its appearance it is a dark world of death and history. Once a planet of the Sith, but has since become little more than a barren wasteland, covered in sand and ruins. It's biggest feature of note on the surface are valley's that are lined with the tombs of Sith Lords, their spirits and entities still present in the force. In the same vein as that, the planet has a strong dark force presence, force users feel an oppressive atmosphere on their mind, like an itch at the back of their eyes. The planet is unremarkable in many ways but a favoured spot for treasure hunters and scavengers. The extent of many of the tombs has yet to be explored and excavated, many relics and objects are there for the taking for those that dare travel to the bad omen of a planet. Contrary to what you might believe, it is not a sacred place to Sith. It may have some significance to dogmatic followers of the dark side but to most it is simply a dead world of dead Sith lords.
The significance of the planet has long since been lost in the hundreds of years since the Sith were active, but it still has a dark reputation to all spacers who pass it by. Its importance is specific to those who find it there, with the most recent example being the Jedi Exile and Revan before them. Other than that, the planet lays as dead as it has for years.
